Stanislav Konstantinova spoke about his dream of becoming a coach

Former figure skater Stanislav Konstantinov admitted that she dreams of becoming a coach and enjoys working with children.

You are studying to become a coach. Do you plan to work with world-class athletes in the future?

– Sure. It seems to me that I could do it. Get your own group together, raise kids from scratch, teach them everything, but that scares me a lot, because I fully understand the realities of our figure skating. It’s a colossal job, a colossal job, we get attached to each athlete.

I also realized that I love children very much and I hope they love me too. Now I’ve worked for seven hours and haven’t had a moment of irritation. I got involved in the process and the kids gave me a lot of work, so I didn’t get tired at all.

The last six months I had a pretty rough time, and it was hard for me to force myself to do even the most expensive things. It’s not that I was constantly negative, but it didn’t give me a high or pleasure, and now I have a different outlook on all things and I think it’s coincided with the way I started working out in training camp, I missed work and figure skating. I didn’t skate for a while, I didn’t train, then I got involved in working with children, with their energy.

We mainly work with children from the regions. They come to training camp and absorb every word, they want, they burn – it’s amazing. I myself ride with them, I show everything myself, I even jump slowly.

I had an injury, I didn’t skate for a long time. The first time, she came out on the ice and said, “My good children, don’t judge me if I suddenly fall off the cog. I haven’t skated for a long time” (laughs). Now, I feel like I’m slowly getting back into shape, as I skate free programs with them on video, as they go to their hometowns and make programs there.

I’m delighted, but I’m not in a rush to be a coach yet. Any athlete who has skated at a high level can try this. It probably takes talent, experience and skills, but my experience is not yet enough for such a big responsibility. I want to study, I really like it. I have already tried myself in several places, watched the work of coaches and understand that I still have to study and study. Probably one day I’ll be a coach again, but so far I’m too young and good (laughs). It’s a joke, of course.

– During your career, you have skated with several coaches. Perhaps you have adopted some teaching secrets from them for your students?

– As such, I don’t have “my” students, but, of course, I skated with three coaches and absorbed all the techniques. I probably borrowed most of the coaching moments from Victoria Evgenievna Butsaeva, because before going to her, I had never seen a coach so passionate about his work. It’s not to offend anyone, it’s just that in principle I’ve never seen anything like this even with a foreign coach. She has toddlers, juniors, intermediates and seniors. Everyone has several mirrors, and she’s always on skates, shows in full, corrects. She has twenty athletes on the ice, and she will tell everyone about her mistake. The work itself is important to her, she enjoys it. Probably, if I became a coach, I would like to strive for this – to come on the ice and, regardless of my mood, fully devote myself to the process and work,” Konstantinova said in an interview with Sport24.

The 22-year-old is a Winter Universiade bronze medalist (2019), Finnish Grand Prix stage silver medalist (2018). She has also won the Challenger Series tournaments: Tallinn Trophy (2016, 2017) and Golden Spin (2017). On July 29, she announced her retirement.
