Los Cafeteros played the entire half with ten men, but Nunez, Suarez and Co. could do nothing about it
In the second semi-final Copa America 2024 Colombia reached their third continental final with a narrow win over Uruguay — 1:0.
Los Cafeteros played better in the first half and took the lead shortly before the break, with Jefferson Lerma heading home a James Rodriguez corner. A few minutes later, Colombia were left with one man down, with Daniel Munoz letting them down when he picked up a second yellow card for a fumble.
A whole half with the majority was not enough for Marcelo Bielsa’s charges to create enough chances at the opponent’s goal and change the result. The appearance of the legendary Luis Suarez did not help either. Colombia could have increased the score in counterattacks, but spared their opponents.
Argentine Nestor Lorenzo led the Colombian team to only the third Copa America final in its history. In 1975, the Cafeteros lost, their only victory dates back to 2001. For comparison: Uruguay is a 15-time continental champion. So is Argentina.
The final match Argentina vs. Colombia will take place on the night of June 15 in Miami. The start is at 03:00 Kyiv time. The day before, Canada and Uruguay will play for third place.
