Berhalter steps down as head coach of the US national team

Gregg led the Stars and Stripes to the World Cup playoffs, won the Gold Cup and the Nations League twice with them, but he was not forgiven for the failure at the home Copa America

United States Soccer Federation (USSF) has officially announced its departure Gregg Berhalter from the post of head coach of the men’s team.

At the home Copa America 2024, the Stars and Stripes failed to reach the playoffs, suffering two defeats (against Panama and Uruguay) and finishing third in Group C.

Berhalter first took over the U.S. national team in late 2018. He stepped down on December 31, 2022, but took over again the following summer. Gregg became the first person to play in the World Cup as both a player and coach for the U.S. national team. He led the Yankees through their group in Qatar, but lost to the Netherlands in the round of 16.

Berhalter, 50, has won 44 of 74 matches in charge of the national team, winning the CONCACAF Gold Cup with them (2021) and twice becoming the winner of the League of Nations in his region (2020, 2024).

There are two matches left to play in the 2024 Copa America. On the night of July 14, Canada and Uruguay will play for the bronze medals, and a day later, the final duel will take place between Argentina and Colombia.
