Tarasova on ROC compensation payment for non-admission to 2024 Games: “No money can replace participation in the Olympics”

Honored Coach of the USSR in Figure Skating Tatiana Tarasova told that the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) pays a decent amount of money to athletes who are not allowed to participate in the Olympics, but no amount can replace participation in the Games.

Earlier, canoeist Viktor Melantyev told that Russian Olympic champions, who did not sign a declaration of neutrality and will not be able to participate in the Paris Olympics, received compensation in the amount of about 500,000 rubles. Melantyev himself, as a participant in the Olympics, received 130,000 rubles.

— No amount of money can replace participation in the Olympics. But still, payments are better than nothing. The amount of payments is normal, it is good that the ROC does this, “Tarasova told .

In February 2022, the IOC recommended that sports federations not allow Russians and Belarusians to participate in international tournaments. Later, the recommendations were softened, and in December 2023, IOC chief Thomas Bach said that the organization would allow Russian and Belarusian athletes who had passed the selection process to the 2024 Summer Games in an individual neutral status. The athletes will be able to perform in Paris without a flag, anthem, or other national symbols.

The Paris Summer Olympics will take place from July 26 to August 11.
