Also in the team of four, Evgenia Dovgodko replaced Natalia Dovgodko
Ukrainian National Rowing Team refused olympic license in women’s singles. Also in the four-man team Evgeniya Dovgodko changed Natalia Dovgodko.
Let us recall that Evgeniya won a license for the 2024 Olympics in women’s singles following the European qualification regatta in Szeged. The quota in this type of program was the first in the history of Ukraine.
“There was a question about the health of the number one of the four, Natalia Dovgodko. We put Evgenia in and saw that the boat was going much better with her. We have a team sport. All five girls can row. But we see that at the Olympics we can improve the result by 3-5 seconds.”
“Evgeniya Dovgodko is a strong athlete, she is currently training in singles, she is very good at pulling. But she is a singles skater, and in the team she sits down and works for herself. She performed very well in singles.”
“The problem is that the license won in Szeged is personal. That is, if we want to replace someone in singles, we cannot do this. Either Evgenia Dovgodko competes, or no one else. The main class that we have been working on for three years and which can perform very well at the Olympics is the four, so that it is as strong and team-like as possible, and not the four strongest singles skaters.”
“A difficult decision was made. We were told that we could make a substitution. And we decided, the coaching council and the athletes, unanimously: Evgenia Dovgodko is better for the team. Less nerves, more results and it is more stable.
“We saw earlier that it was possible to perform better, but we did not raise the issue of substitution due to sports ethics. But when we saw such a difference, we made a substitution. Natalia Dovgodko will be a substitute, because any situation can arise, but a new unit has appeared – Evgenia Dovgodko.”
Let us recall that Igor Khmara and Stanislav Kovalev will represent Ukraine in the men’s lightweight double sculls in academic rowing. The women’s quadruple, after replacement, will be represented by Evgeniya Dovgodko, Ekaterina Dudchenko, Anastasia Kozhenkova, Darya Verkhosmotr (Natalya Dovgodko is a reserve).
The 2024 Summer Olympics will be held in France from July 26 to August 11. The competition will feature 329 sets of medals in 32 sports.
