Athletistic / Doping. The representative of the Main Directorate for Drug Control of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation, Kirill Kuznetsov, said that two representatives of the athletes’ staff were sentenced to real prison terms for inciting athletes to violate anti-doping rules. He spoke at the All-Russian Forum “Sport. Anti-Doping. Health.”

“The Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation, within its powers, is actively involved in the fight against the spread and use of doping in sports. The Main Directorate for Drug Control is at the forefront of this fight.

We carry out this work in close cooperation with the Russian Anti-Doping Agency (RUSADA) and its investigation department, as well as with the Ministry of Sports of the Russian Federation. With our direct participation, in 2016, Articles 230.1 and 230.2 were introduced into the Criminal Code, which criminalize the actions of coaches and other sports personnel.

“To date, there are seven cases under these articles in criminal practice. Five of them have already been found guilty, and two of the accused have been sentenced to actual imprisonment,” Kuznetsov was quoted as saying by TASS.

In 2019, the World Anti-Doping Agency banned Russia from all major sporting events for four years. In 2020, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Lausanne, Switzerland, reduced this period to two years. Athletes competing in competitions (Olympics and World Championships) were prohibited from using the word “Russia.”
