High jumper Polina Parfenenko underwent surgery after a displaced fracture of her little finger, the press service of the All-Russian Athletics Federation (ARAF) reports.
The athlete was injured on Tuesday while competing at the PSB Russian Cup in Cheboksary, where she finished third with a score of 1.93 meters. Parfenenko twisted her ankle while jumping from the mat, after which she was sent to the hospital.
“She was operated on the day before in Moscow, and now the athlete is under the supervision of doctors. ARAF wishes Polina health, a full recovery and a return to work,” the organization said in a statement.
In June, Parfenenko won bronze at the BRICS Games with a score of 1.95 meters.
