Athletistic / Olympic Games. Russian swimmer Evgenia Chikunova, a world record holder, said it was not easy for her to make the decision to skip the 2024 Olympics in Paris. However, her only regret is that it took too long.
“It was hard because there was still hope that we could go to the Olympics. But now my only regret is that I didn’t say earlier that I wouldn’t go to Paris. It’s clear that I didn’t decide. Suddenly, I thought about it for a very long time. I was inclined to think that I would like to qualify for the Games. But not under such conditions… This is not my dream. Even if I win and take a place at the Olympics under such conditions, I can say with certainty: it’s not worth it,” Chikunova said according to Match TV.
In 2023, Evgenia Chikunova set a world record in the 200-meter breaststroke. This happened at the Russian Championship in Kazan. On April 21, 2023, she posted a result of 2 minutes 17.55 seconds. The 19-year-old Russian is already an Honored Master of Sports.
Russian athletes are allowed to participate in the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris with a neutral status and subject to a number of criteria. This politicized decision by the IOC is linked to the events in Ukraine.
The 2024 Summer Olympics will be held in Paris from July 26 to August 11.
