Ukrainian saw fear in his opponent’s eyes
WBC World Champion in the light middleweight category, Ukrainian Sergey Bogachuk (24-1, 23 KO) said he saw fear in the eyes of the WBO International welterweight champion Vergil Ortiz (21-0, 21 KOs) during a duel of glances.
“What did I feel? Honestly? Fear. He’s afraid of me. Sparring is sparring, and a fight is a fight. These are different things. A duel of glances is already a battle. He already felt that it would soon be hard, painful. I honestly saw fear. I’m just saying what I saw.”
“Do I often see fear in my opponents? Yes, very often. It didn’t always end in knockouts. Once it ended in a knockout in my favor. I saw fear at the weigh-in, I knew he was afraid of me. But there is a saying: fear is a smart athlete’s friend. There are people who do such things out of fear… They just turn on their instinct for self-preservation, and they do strong things.”
The fight between Bogachuk and Ortiz will take place on August 10. The event will take place in Las Vegas at the Michelob Ultra arena in the famous Mandalay Bay casino. The interim WBC title, which Bogachuk holds, will be at stake.
Both boxers have already spoken about the confrontation. The Ukrainian emphasized that he is not going to part with the WBC interim world champion belt. Virgil stated that his boxing style is similar to Sergey’s.
Let us recall that the Ukrainian confidently defeated the American Brian Mendoza in a fight that took place in late March in Las Vegas. Following 12 rounds, all judges gave the victory to Bogachuk – 118-110, 117-111 and 117-111.
Vergil Ortiz defeated Tomas Dulorme from Puerto Rico in his last fight. The American has won all his fights ahead of schedule.
