The Slovenian was among the main contenders for the podium at the Grand Loop
Red Bull leader – BORA – hansgrohe Primoz Roglic came down from Tour de France 2024 due to an accident. The Slovenian did not start the 13th stage of the Grand Loop.
Roglic was caught in a big crash at the end of the previous stage, which was won by Binjam Ghirmay of the Intermarche-Wanty team. Primoz managed to get back on his bike and finish two and a half minutes behind the winner, which dropped him from fourth to sixth in the overall standings.
This morning, after another check-up, the team decided to withdraw their leader from the Tour de France. Primoz will begin his recovery and then set his goals for the second half of the season.
This is Roglic’s second serious injury this year. Primoz crashed in the Tour of the Basques in April, after which he dropped out of the race and began preparing for the Tour de France.
The Slovenian is a three-time winner of La Vuelta. Primoz is also the Tokyo Olympic champion in the individual time trial. The Slovenian Cycling Federation did not include Roglic in the preliminary application for the 2024 Games in Paris.
The two-time winner of the Grand Loop and 2024 Giro champion Tadej Pogačar is leading the Tour de France. The Belgian Remco Evenepoel and last year’s Tour de France winner Jonas Wingegaard are just over a minute behind the Slovenian.
