Saudi Arabia to host first Olympic eSports games in 2025

The decision must be approved by the IOC session, which will take place before the 2024 Olympics in Paris.

International Olympic Committee (IOC) announced the holding of the first Olympic eSports games in Saudi Arabia in 2025.

Today, the IOC signed a partnership agreement with the Saudi Arabian National Olympic Committee to host the 2025 eSports Games. Work will begin soon on selecting the city, venue and dates of the tournament, the player qualification process and other details.

The agreement between the IOC and the NOC of Saudi Arabia is for 12 years. The Olympic eSports Games will be held regularly.

The proposal still needs to be approved by the IOC session. The next meeting will take place before the start of the 2024 Olympics in Paris.

It should be noted that from July until almost the end of August, a large multidisciplinary (more than 20 games) tournament, the Esports World Cup, is taking place in Saudi Arabia. The total prize fund is $60 million.

Let us recall that the International Olympic Committee announced the creation of the eSports Olympic Games in the fall of 2023. Earlier, the organization launched the 2023 Olympic eSports Series, the finals of the competition were held in Singapore.

The 2024 Summer Olympics will be held in France from July 26 to August 11. The competition will feature 329 sets of medals in 32 sports.
