Russian figure skater Elizaveta Khudaiberdieva told that her media work did not distract her from her core business.
Khudaiberdieva and her partner Egor Bazin are the champions of Russia for the 2022/23 season. Since March 2023, the athletes have been training in the group of Alexander Zhulin, where they left coach Denis Samokhin. The duo won silver medals at the Russian Championship and the Spartakiad of the strongest.
— How are the training camps going, what is the uniform like?
– Everything is fine, great. Training camps are progressing, we are developing our programs, working with coaches, we have excellent conditions, few people on the ice, all the attention is on our three couples. I love Sochi, we live in an incredible martial arts center, thanks to the federation that created such conditions.
— Many fans think that the media distracts them from their main activities. Now you are developing not only in figure skating, but also in another direction.
– It doesn’t bother me. From my own experience I can say that if you are forbidden to do something while there is a certain impulse inside, it does not lead to success. You just need to do everything within reason, with your head on your shoulders. When starting some media projects, in cooperation with , I consult with the management and let them know that they support me. All this is my responsibility, and not to the detriment of training. There are more closed skaters, or those who are distracted by this. This is not necessary. The main thing is that everyone feels comfortable. It is easier for me to train in the current format; I do not push myself to the limits.
— Do you have a goal in the media field?
— My main task in the media is to attract a mass audience to figure skating. I wrote that there is a certain problem in this direction. Many people know figure skating only by their last name – Plushenko, Yagudin, Medvedeva, Zagitova, Trusova, Valieva and that’s it. It’s sad, of course. Although it would seem that the popularity of this sport is incredible. I would like the general public to understand that figure skaters are not necessarily small children, there is such a stereotype. We have a lot of nice adult athletes who are not afraid to develop. I can’t say that I have a goal to work as a presenter, etc., I have a different path.
— Were there any reactions from fans after your chronicles that you remember?
“I was glad that many skaters liked it, no one was offended, although there were a few mentions. The guys responded flatteringly. Zhenya Medvedeva said that she was pleased with the way I wrote about her. The most important thing is that I opened up to fans, to lovers of silhouettes. They began to get to know me from a life perspective, to know who I really am. Many people wrote that they treated me badly, but it turned out that I was a cool girl. I even shed tears from some comments,” Khudaiberdieva told .
