Athletistic/Figure skating. Honored coach of the USSR Tatyana Tarasova commented on the debut performance of the Russian Junior Championship medalist Sofia Samodelkina for Kazakhstan.

Last summer, the 17-year-old figure skater changed her citizenship and on Tuesday she took to the competitive ice for the first time since March 2023, performing a short program at the Kazakhstan Championships. Sophia fell while performing a triple Lutz and received 51.23 points.

— Samodelkina participated in the Kazakhstan Championship, she may participate in the Grand Prix stages. Will you follow her progress?

— I will keep an eye on all the girls who will participate in the Grand Prix stages, not just Samodelkina. Do you think that falling in the short program is a good thing? You can’t fall in the short program. Why are you following Samodelkina so closely? Are you her relative?

— No, Sophia is a talented athlete who has achieved good results in Russia. I am interested in your opinion on her prospects. Will she be able to succeed in her career?

“I am more interested in the fate of our girls who will perform. It is interesting to see how they will recover and what they need to do to win in the current situation,” Tarasova said, as quoted by Match TV.
