The fight will take place in Tokyo
Absolute World Champion in the Super Bantamweight Division Naoya Inoue (27-0, 24 KO) will have his next fight on September 3rd against TJ Doheny (26-4, 20 KO).
The event will take place in Naoya Inoue’s homeland – Tokyo.
The 31-year-old Japanese boxer last defended his four titles in early May against Mexican Luis Nery, a WBC title challenger. Naoya won the fight via sixth-round stoppage and remains undefeated in the professional ring.
Thanks to this success, the Japanese fighter topped the world rankings regardless of weight category (P4P) according to The Ring magazine, but not for long – just ten days later, he was knocked off the podium by Ukrainian Alexander Usyk, who became the absolute heavyweight champion.
Before that, last December, Inoue beat the aforementioned Tapales, adding the IBF and WBA belts to his WBC and WBO super bantamweight titles. Thus, Naoya made history by becoming the undisputed world champion in two weight classes within a year.
37-year-old TJ Doheny is a former IBF world champion. In his last fight, Doheny knocked out Breel Bayogos.
