Lucescu may lead Romanian national team

Another candidate for this position is said to be Gheorghe Hagi

Former head coach Dynamo Kyiv and Shakhtar Donetsk Mircea Lucescu can become a mentor Romanian national team.

Current Romanian head coach Edward Yordanescu is reported to have decided to step down from his post in order to spend more time with his family. Yordanescu’s current contract with the Romanian federation expires at the end of July. Another candidate for the position is Gheorghe Hagi.

In early May of this year, information emerged that Dynamo Kyiv had offered its ex-coach the position of general director of the club. At the same time, Lucescu himself stated that he would decide on his future at the end of May. Earlier, the specialist had rejected an offer from Besiktas.

According to Romanian journalists, the coach himself is waiting for an offer from the Romanian national team, with which he would like to work until the end of his career. In December, Mircea was also named among the candidates for the role of the new coach of Lyon, the Romanian second division club Corvinul and Dinamo Zagreb.

Let us recall that at the 2024 European Championship, the Romanian national team advanced to the playoffs of the tournament, taking first place in Group E. In the first round of the group stage, the Romanians defeated the Ukrainian national team with a score of 3:0. In the 1/8 finals of Euro 2024, the team lost to the Netherlands (0:3).
