Kazakhstan’s national figure skating team head coach Assem Kasanova said she had changed her citizenship. Sofia Samodelkina will represent the team at the ISU Junior Grand Prix stage.
On Wednesday, Samodelkina won gold at the Kazakhstan Summer Championship. Based on the sum of two performances, the 17-year-old figure skater scored 161.43 points. For Samodelkina, this is the first tournament after changing her sports citizenship.

At the end of the season of all Kazakhstan championships, the winning athletes are included in the national teams. However, as an exception, the winners and prize-winners of the summer national championship also have the right to participate in international competitions.
Samodelkina will perform on the stage of the Junior World Grand Prix in Ankara from September 18 to 21,” Kasanova was quoted as saying by Tengri Sport.
Samodelkina was born in Moscow and has already participated in international competitions under the flag of the Russian Federation.
