In fact, this summer was not just a series of isolated events – these puzzles fit together to form a single picture, which means that the domestic football nouveau riche failed to beat FIFA, UEFA and CAS
It’s impossible not to admire the ingenuity and natural resourcefulness of our people. If we launch banking services, then they are the most multi-layered and multi-faceted. If they make postal services, then they are such that all of Europe says “wow”. If they make gas stations, then they are with such a level of service that you can go in and eat, wash yourself, buy everything you need and even get a coffee with a picture. If they found marketplaces, where you can buy panties, beer, a full set of mom’s miners, and a bulletproof vest with a javelin to boot.
The other side: if they start corruption, then it is on such a scale that it is a country within a country; if they steal, then it is so big that there won’t even be any sockets or light switches left in the workplace; if they come up with a scheme, then it is on such a scale that the world will tremble. In a word, “Europe would be proud of them, but they are ours.”
Back in the mid-2010s, our football officials found a great way to “forgive” their debts to football players, coaches, and organizations.

Are there a lot of credit obligations and promissory notes accumulated on the sign?
What could be simpler?
There was FC Avangard (Tsuryupinsk) – became FC Avangard-2012. There was FC Meliorator – became Meliorator-1.5. There was FC Trudovnik – became FC Stroitel. There was FC Kanonir – became Kanonir-Tsuryupinsk. That’s all!
We have seen dozens of transformations according to this scheme since the 2000s, for various reasons and with various consequences. SC Volyn-1 instead of Volyn. SC Dnepr-1 instead of Dnepr. Arsenal-Kyiv instead of Arsenal. FC Metallurg (Rosso-Nero) or MFK Metallurg instead of Metallurg (Zaporozhye). Metal instead of Metalist. OOO PFC Karpaty instead of OOO KPF Karpaty – or vice versa, my God, how the hell can you not mix it up!
In short, dozens of cases that successfully helped to reset and start all over again, but often with the previous coat of arms, color, history and even top management.
For a long time, this was allowed to go unpunished. Some of the “zeroed” ones even made it to European competitions.
However, time put everything in its place.
Firstly, someone for whom football means nothing will easily reset the second club after the first. And dozens of other clubs. Just like that, according to the principle, although in both cases, by selling the leading players in a timely manner, it would be possible not only to pay off all debts, but also to play peacefully for several more seasons.
Even the current SK Dnipro-1 sold players for 8 million euros. Wouldn’t that be enough to play the 2024/25 season? Plus the payments for participation in European competitions!?
But no, someone’s hand, not officially involved in the club – just an interested fan, just an outside observer – considered it necessary not just to stop funding, but not to give the club to anyone. Simple as that. Because. And this trick has happened to us more than once and would happen in the future, because the leaders have no political will to ban for life at least the officially working top management of the “zeroed clubs” in full.
But the European bureaucracy is awake. It is slow, extremely clumsy, but it is impossible to bribe or stop it.
And now Karpaty recognize the decision of the Lausanne Sport Arbitration Court and undertake to comply with court decisions. It is said so simply, but there is so much fog: and from what year is the decision? And since they are recognized as successors, is this only the Smalychuk era or the Dyminsky period? And since Cristobal is precisely a matter of long past years, then how many hundreds of football players will subsequently file similar legal claims? And what percentage will be satisfied after the creation of a decisive precedent – 90%, 99% or 100%?
Karpaty officially has no president, but a fairly influential owner who is not indifferent to football. If he (both morally and financially) pulls this entire avalanche, and the club survives, we can take off our hats and thank them for their angelic patience and Christian forgiveness. Because in reality, rarely does a brand receive such great respect from descendants to pay such colossal money for it. Even on the scale of significant trademarks and well-known business names for Ukraine.
So, the precedent created by the Lausanne CAS with its decision on the historical thread of inheritance of the Carpathians makes the entire business of Avangard-2024, Korablestroiteley-1, and LLC SK FC Arsenal unprofitable in one fell swoop. Why create something that can later be saddled with multi-million dollar debts through the courts?
It seems that the precedent created by the case of two zeroed out signs of the summer of 2024 will bury the very idea of updating old brands of football clubs. Is this good or bad? Probably good. On the one hand, the football players will get some hope of getting back what they once earned (hope seems illusory, but look at Cristobal – he will be able to buy himself a car, put in veneers or get a tattoo on 85% of his body skin! And dozens of others will follow him) , who in different years did not find short-term football happiness in a white and green uniform
And then, God forbid, there will be lawsuits against dozens of other signs! And you can’t envy those who spent their own money with all their hearts in recent years, wishing only the best for the beloved name of the football club since childhood. They will be skinned seven times and the eighth will be taken as a keepsake by the current football players, who will have no money left after paying off the long-standing debts of their predecessors…
And how will this end for the Ukrainian football championship? With the withdrawal of another 5-10 clubs. participants. Mass participation – both geographical and mathematical. Together with amendments to the regulations on the status and transfers of FIFA football players, which essentially equated the victim with the aggressor; together with the unsatisfactory state of the economy; together with the prospect of calling up 90% of current professional football players and 99% of amateur football players – all this will finish off the unfortunate domestic football, which has long been on its last legs.
And then all the fans of reducing leagues, playing with competition formats, strictly following inflated certification requirements, introducing and withdrawing limits and everything else, will see with their own eyes how all their sick fantasies are being realized.
They will wait for the Ukrainian championship with four teams and 10 rounds. Let them complete this wonderful spectacle with several more “tournaments of four” and playoffs, in order to finally drive into the grave a once massive, full-flowing sport that does not need ingenious experiments from ingenious experimenters.
Goodbye, Ukrainian football!
You were quirky, mean, quirky and beautiful in your own way – like this land, where life still bubbles despite numerous all-round attempts to destroy it.
