“Russian gymnasts have recently been ahead of the rest. Our banners were flying, our anthem was ringing everywhere. It is clear that this time, without the Russians, the Olympics will not be as strong and correct as they were originally planned,” Wiener said, quotes “Match” as saying TV.
- See it for yourself. Russia has announced a boycott of the Paris Olympics.
The International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) decided in December 2023 to allow Russian athletes to participate in international competitions in neutral status. This decision came into force on January 1, 2024, but Russian gymnasts were unable to participate in the qualifying competitions for the 2024 Olympics and lost their chance to go to Paris.
The Summer Olympics in the French capital will begin on July 26 and the closing ceremony will take place on August 11.
