Double Olympic pole vault champion Elena Isinbayeva who is a member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Athletes’ Commission, will not be attending the 142nd IOC session, the organization’s press service reported.
Isinbayeva was elected to the Athletes’ Commission in 2016. The 142nd IOC Session is currently taking place in Paris.
Isinbayeva is a two-time Olympic pole vault champion, a 2012 Olympic bronze medalist, a multiple world champion and the holder of 28 world records.
On 12 October 2023, the IOC suspended the membership of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) until further notice due to the inclusion of the Olympic councils of the DPR, LPR, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions in the Russian organization. According to the organization, the ROC “violated the Olympic Charter” with this decision.
