Athletistic/Tennis. Vice-President of the Russian Tennis Federation and the most decorated Russian tennis player Yevgeny Kafelnikov expressed his support for Russian athletes who will perform at the Paris Olympics in neutral status.

From Russia, 15 athletes are participating in the 2024 Olympic Games in neutral status.

“The attitude towards the 2024 Olympics in Russia is ambiguous; the country is actually divided into two camps. However, everything is clear to me. Unlike some national leaders, I do not consider those who will go to Paris with a neutral status as “homeless”, “traitors” or “agents”. On the contrary, our athletes should be proud and supported. Let’s take care of them.

I have always said that if there is an opportunity to participate in the Games, it should not be missed. The Olympic Games are the pinnacle of an athlete’s career, the starting point of a four-year period. Many train for years and dream of an Olympic medal. Why deprive them of this dream?

If I were an active tennis player, I would go to Paris without hesitation, even with the IOC restrictions and conditions, rightly called humiliating. Without a flag and anthem, under the emblem of the AIN (Neutral Individual Athletes). But the whole world would know what Kafelnikov represents. Just as they now know that Daniil Medvedev and Mirra Andreeva are Russian tennis players. That’s the main thing! – Kafelnikov said.

He also expressed disappointment at the decision of Russian TV channels not to broadcast the 2024 Olympics.

“I was disappointed by the position of Russian sports channels, which decided not to broadcast the 2024 Games. This is a strategic mistake. Anyone who really loves sports will not miss the Olympics, regardless of the number of Russian participants.

“I hope that our fans will still be able to find an opportunity to follow the broadcasts from Paris, at least on the Internet,” Kafelnikov said in an interview with SE.
