Athletistic/OI-2024. Olympic champion and State Duma deputy Svetlana Zhurova believes that the case of Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva is political in nature for the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).

“Initially, international organizations were not going to support Valieva,” Zhurova said. — For the IOC and WADA, this is a political issue. By appealing, we tried to protect Kamila’s interests, but the topic was on the agenda again. It was a political order, and they clung to Valieva, trying to make the most of the situation. All this is frankly a political issue,” Zhurova said.

Recall that on Thursday the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) rejected the appeals of the Russian Olympic Committee, the Russian Figure Skating Federation and figure skaters on the issue of the redistribution of medals in the team tournament of the 2022 Olympic Games.
