Athletistic/OI-2024. Canadian women’s soccer head coach Bev Priestman has been suspended following a scandal involving the use of a drone to spy on opponents at the 2024 Olympics. Andy Spence will serve as head coach until the end of the tournament, Canadian Soccer Association general secretary Kevin Blue announced.

“Over the past 24 hours we have received new information that drones are being used to spy on competitors ahead of the Paris Olympics. “The association has therefore decided to suspend Bev Priestman for the remainder of the tournament and pending the conclusion of an independent review,” Blue was quoted as saying by Reuters.

Earlier, it was reported that the New Zealand team’s training was interrupted due to a drone launched by a Canadian team employee. Following the incident, the Canadian Olympic Committee apologized to the New Zealand NOC and the country’s football federation. On July 25, in the first round match of the group stage of the Olympic tournament, the New Zealand and Canadian national teams met and the Canadian team won with a score of 2:1. The women’s football tournament at the 2024 Olympic Games will be held from July 25 to August 10.
