Australian swimmer Titmus defends Olympic 400m freestyle title

Australian swimmer Ariane Timus won a gold medal in the 400-meter freestyle at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.

In the final race, Titmus clocked a time of 3 minutes and 57.49 seconds. The Australian won her second Olympic gold medal at this distance; she had previously won at the 2020 Games in Tokyo. Titmus now has three Olympic gold medals.

Canadian Summer McIntosh took second place (+0.88 seconds), while American Katie Ledecky, a seven-time Olympic champion, took bronze (+3.37).

The men’s 400m freestyle final was won by Germany’s Lukas Martens, who covered the distance in 3 minutes 41.78 seconds. Second and third place went to Australia’s Elijah Winnington (+0.43) and South Korea’s Kim Woo-min (+0.72).

The Olympic Games take place in Paris from July 26 to August 11. All Russian athletes compete in neutral status.
