Varane officially joins Como

Cesc and Henry’s club continues to gather high-profile footballers

Como officially announced the signing of the former France, Real Madrid and Manchester United defender Raphael Varane.

It was previously reported that the centre-back would sign a contract until the summer of 2026 with the possibility of extending it for another season. The clubs were finalising the paperwork. The 31-year-old player moved to Como as a free agent.

Varane has spent the last three seasons with Manchester United, winning the League Cup and FA Cup. In the 2023/24 season, the centre-back played in 32 matches in all competitions, scoring one goal.

Earlier this summer, experienced forward Andrea Belotti signed a full-time contract with Como, while Spanish goalkeeper Pepe Reina and defender Alberto Moreno joined the team. Como recently signed Iraqi Olympic winger Ali Jassim, who scored a precise strike in the second round of the 2024 Olympics to bring his team a 2-1 victory over Ukraine.

Como entered Serie A following the Italian second division championship. Larijani will play in the elite for the first time since the 2002/03 season.

In the new season, the team will be led by Cesc Fabregas, who, along with Thierry Henry, is on the list of shareholders of the club.
