“I am a believer, baptized, so what attitude can I have to what is happening at the Paris Olympics? To be honest, I feel only horror and disgust at what is happening. This shows once again that chess does not need to strive to be included in the Olympic Games program, at least under the current leadership of the IOC, at the moment it is a completely rotten and politicized organization,” Shipov said according to TASS.

On July 26, the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games took place in Paris. The scriptwriters allowed themselves to stage a provocative scene with a parody of Leonardo da Vinci’s painting “The Last Supper”. After that, the IOC and the organizing committee of the 2024 Olympic Games had to officially apologize to all believers who were offended by this scene.
In 1999, the International Chess Federation (FIDE) was recognized by the IOC as the international governing body for non-Olympic sports. In 2000, FIDE introduced anti-doping rules for chess as part of a campaign to introduce chess to the Olympic Games.
