Italian defender signs five-year deal with Arsenal
Arsenal announced the transfer of the defender Bologna Riccardo Calafiori.
The 22-year-old player signed a five-year contract with the Gunners. According to media reports, the transfer amounted to 40 million euros + 5 million euros in bonuses. Calafiori will play under number 33 in the Arsenal squad.
Calafiori was one of the revelations of last season, in which Bologna sensationally qualified for the Champions League under the guidance of Thiago Motta (now the head coach of Juventus). The central defender scored two goals and made five assists in 33 matches.
This year, the defender also made his debut for the Italian national team, and at Euro 2024 he was a starter, missing only the 1/8 final match against Switzerland (0:2) due to an accumulation of yellow cards.
Arsenal, for whom Ukrainian Oleksandr Zinchenko plays, will open the 2024/25 season on August 17 with a home match against Wolverhampton as part of the opening round of the Premier League.
Making us stronger 💪
