Svitolina defeats Pegula to reach 2024 Olympic Games 1/8 finals

Elina’s next opponent is Barbora Krejcikova

Ukrainian tennis player Elina Svitolina made it to the 1/8 finals Olympic Games 2024.

In the second round match, Svitolina beat the world’s sixth racket Jessica Pegula from the USA. The fight lasted an hour and 49 minutes.

In the first set, the Ukrainian gave her opponent two games on her serve, responding with only one break – 4:6. In the second set, Elina completely controlled the game – 6:1. In the decisive set, Svitolina took two games on the American’s serve and finished the match with the first match point – 6:3.

Elina defeated Pegula for the first time in the last five matches. It should be noted that the opponents have not played each other on clay before.

In the round of 16, Svitolina, the bronze medalist at the 2020 Tokyo Games, will face ninth seed Barbora Krejcikova of the Czech Republic. Marta Kostyuk will also play in the third round of the 2024 Olympics. Her opponent is Maria Sakkari of Greece.
