The 19-year-old swimmer has decided not to go to the Paris Olympics as a neutral.
“Yes, I miss international competitions, that’s true. A recent trip to Bosnia confirmed that. I really miss it. But I can’t say exactly how I will act. I haven’t applied for neutral status yet and I’m not sure I will get it.
I have to think about whether I want that. If I have even a little confidence, I will discuss it with the coach and then with the management of the federation to examine the possible options.
“It all depends on my desire and whether I will apply for this status or not,” Chikunova said in an interview with Match TV.
In the final of the Russian Cup in the 100-meter breaststroke, Chikunova showed a better result than Olympic champion Tatyana Smith. Chikunova’s result was 1:05.26, and Smith’s – 1:05.28.
