The IOC said it could not influence the CAS decision on the distribution of medals based on the results of the figure skating team competitions at the 2022 Olympics.

International Olympic Committee (IOC) communications director Mark Adams has said the organisation cannot influence the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) decision on the medal distribution situation following the results of the team figure skating competitions at the 2022 Olympic Games.

The Figure Skating Federation and the Canadian NOC are contesting the decision of the International Skating Union (ISU) to award the Russian team bronze medals in the team tournament at the Beijing 2022 Olympic Games following the doping case of a Russian figure skater. Kamila Valieva .

— This is not our area of responsibility at the moment. The decision is made by the CAS. And we hope that the issue of awarding bronze medals will be resolved as soon as possible.

“We don’t like delay. But all legal procedures must be followed. We must be patient. Unfortunately, we can’t add anything more. We hope that justice will prevail,” Adams said at a press conference.

On January 29, CAS suspended Valieva for four years and her results were invalidated as of December 25, 2021. Following this, the ISU recalculated the results of the team tournament at the Beijing Olympics, where Valieva competed as part of the Russian team, and redistributed the medals as follows: gold went to the American skaters, silver to the Japanese, and bronze went to the American skaters in Russia.

As a result, the Canadian team remained in fourth place. However, Canadians believe that the bronze medal should be awarded to their team.
