Athletistic / Olympic Games. Russian State Duma deputy Dmitry Svishchev said that the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and French law enforcement agencies are obliged to investigate the case of the display of nationalist slogans during the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris (France). This happened on July 29 during a match of Ukrainian tennis player Elina Svitolina.
“The ban on demonstrating various slogans is uniform and applies to all parties. Therefore, such manifestations of political activities with nationalist slogans should be investigated by both the IOC and the Organizing Committee, and, if necessary, by French law enforcement agencies. But we do not expect a proper reaction from the IOC. However, all of a sudden they will really decide to act as they should in this situation,” TASS reports, citing Svishchev’s words.
- See it for yourself. Russia has announced a boycott of the Paris Olympics.
On July 29, Elina Svitolina defeated American Jessica Pegula in three sets with a score of 4:6, 6:1, 6:3 in the second round of the Olympic women’s singles tennis tournament. The broadcast of this meeting included Ukrainian flags with nationalist slogans, which are banned in the territory of the Russian Federation.
