“It is not important for me to compete in absentia with the Olympic participants, we are in different conditions” – Kochanova

Russian high jump champion and season leader in Russia Maria Kochanova has said it would be unprincipled for her to compete in absentia with athletes who will take part in the Paris Olympics.

Kochanova will perform at the “New Height” tournament in Moscow on August 3. The high jump competition at the Paris Olympics will take place from August 2 to 4 for women and from August 7 to 10 for men.

— As such, there is no need to establish a connection with the Olympic Games. At different competitions, there are different sensations, different behaviors of athletes. If we talk about the Games, we can follow the dynamics according to which the leader of the season does not become the winner. It would be incorrect to compare and think about something like that, because everyone is in different conditions. We all move at our own pace. I think this comparison is important for the audience, but for us this comparison is not fundamental.

As I said before, it is very difficult to predict the results. I would like to see a good fight. Both the men’s and women’s sectors are of great interest, I would like everyone to show a good result for which they worked and that no one was injured,” the correspondent reports, reporting Kochanova’s words.
