Australian swimmer withdraws from 1,500m freestyle at 2024 Olympics due to COVID-19

Australian world champion swimmer Lani Pallister has refused to compete in the 1,500-metre freestyle qualifying swim at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris due to a positive test result for coronavirus infection, the Australian Olympic Committee press service reports.

Qualifying competitions take place on July 30.

“She tested positive for COVID-19 and decided to conserve her strength for the 4x200m freestyle relay, which will take place on August 1,” the statement said.

Pallister won gold and silver in the relay at the world championships and bronze in the 1,500m freestyle. She is also a four-time short course world champion.

The Paris Olympics will end on August 11.
