Athletistic/Figure skating. Tatiana Tarasova, Honored Figure Skating Coach of the USSR, commented on the statements of commentator Dmitry Guberniev, who called Russia an unsportsmanlike country.

“I cannot accept that Russia is an anti-sports country. This is far from the truth. To say that we are not sports-minded is not entirely accurate. In Russia, children participate in physical education from a very young age. Even those who do not do sports elsewhere are passionate about sports. Our children’s sections are overcrowded and we often cannot accommodate everyone. No one faces the problem of a lack of places – we take everyone we can.

Almost all children do sports. Of course, there are those who are passionate about other areas, but the majority are passionate about physical education. I wish there were more people involved in sports, but to say that we are an anti-sports country is to ignore the reality. In schools, everyone likes to go to physical education; the sections are crowded. We are doing everything possible to develop sports, despite the lack of coaches and sports schools,” Tarasova said in an interview with the Sport24 correspondent.
