Athletistic/Swimming. World record holder in the 200-meter breaststroke Evgenia Chikunova, in an interview with Match TV, explained how she accepted criticism from Olympic champion Elena Vaitsekhovskaya because of her refusal to participate in the Olympic Games.

— How do you react to questions about why you didn’t go to the Olympics? Many people have spoken out, including Dmitry Guberniev. I especially remember Elena Vaitsekhovskaya’s phrase: “You stop supporting Chikunova so much that your heart breaks.” Does this affect you in any way?

“Now it affects me much less than during the Tokyo Olympics. Of course, the information reaches me, I subscribe to the Telegram channels of Vaitsekhovskaya and Guberniev. It is impossible not to notice their statements. I read them, but what can you do? This is another person’s opinion.

— Elena Sergeevna says she doesn’t want to support you. What do you think?

– What is there to worry about? This is her opinion. If Elena Sergeevna does not want to support me, it means that others who have emotions towards me will support me. I am not going to force her to support me. She has her own opinion based on various factors and I respect her. She has the right to decide who to support. There is nothing wrong. Vaitsekhovskaya is a popular person and she can publish anything. The main thing is that she does not get personal. This is more important to me. She logically explained her position – I do not see a problem with that.

  • Chikunova, who surpassed the result of the Olympic swimming champion, will receive 2 million rubles
