Swedish Olympic pole vault champion Armand Duplantis will not live in the Olympic Village during the 2024 Games in Paris.
As reported by Aftonbladet, citing the captain of the Swedish athletics team, Kaisa Bergqvist, the athlete will arrive in the French capital on Wednesday and will live in a hotel. Qualifications for the pole vault start on Saturday and the finals will take place on Monday.
“He found another solution outside the village to be able to prepare himself as well as possible.” Different athletes have different ways of preparing for competition.
He thinks that this way he will get better conditions and a different sense of calm. “He’s been in situations like this before,” Bergquist said.
Duplantis won Olympic gold at the 2020 Games in Tokyo, and is the world record holder. The 24-year-old also has two outdoor world championship victories and two indoor world championship gold medals.
Previously, a number of athletes complained about transport difficulties, living conditions and poor food in the Olympic Village.
The 2024 Olympic Games will take place in France from July 26 to August 11.
