Wiffen breaks Romanchuk’s Olympic record to win 800m freestyle gold, McKeown sets record in 100m backstroke (video)

The Ukrainian’s result was surpassed by three seconds

On Olympic Games 2024 A set of swimming medals was awarded in Paris 800m freestyle among men.

The Irishman won the gold Daniel Wiffen, with a time of 7:38.19, setting a new olympic record, surpassing the mark by three seconds Mikhail Romanchuk (7:41.28). Let us recall that the Ukrainian did not make it to the 800m freestyle final.

American Robert Fink won silver. Italian Gregorio Paltrinieri won bronze.

The women’s final also took place 100 meters backstroke. Gold with new olympic record (57.33 sec) won Kaylee McKeown. The Australian representative improved her own result (57.47) set at the 2020 Games.

Silver and bronze in this distance went to representatives of the USA – Regan Smith and Katherine Berkoff, respectively.

The 2024 Olympic Games will end on August 11. The competitions will feature 329 sets of awards in 32 sports. Ukraine is represented in Paris by 140 athletes in 23 sports – this is the smallest representation of the blue and yellow during the Olympics.
