— Because the country shows no interest in sports. People do not know much and are not particularly interested in athletes, they do not care about them. For example, Alexander Bolshunov gets only 2% in VTsIOM polls. The remaining 98% have not even heard of him. I often ask journalism students: “Can you name at least one Russian athlete who won the ski relay in Beijing?”
They hardly remember Bolshunov and do not even know about other athletes. If we talk about a wide audience, many people know only Ovechkin, and then, I think, no more than 3% of the population.
