Svitolina: No time to get upset, we need to move to another surface, work and move on

Elina has finished performing at the Paris Olympics

Ukrainian tennis player Elina Svitolina shared her emotions after being eliminated from the singles tennis tournament Olympic Games 2024 from Barbora Krejcikova from the Czech Republic.

“What was missing in the match against Krejcikova? She started playing better. She is top 10, has been playing very well lately. It was a very even match, and also hot. A very difficult match. I couldn’t play to the end as I wanted. Very disappointing.”

“What are your next plans? I’ll be playing a tournament in Toronto next week. Cincinnati, Monterrey, New York – we have big tournaments coming up. There’s no time to get upset, we need to move on to a different surface, work and move on. It’s very important to stay healthy so I can get into shape. And I’m happy that I’m in good shape.”

“Who will be the coach? I am still in negotiations with several coaches. I performed and did not want to deal with this issue. Will it be Olga Savchuk? She is always there and helps, she is very happy that she always supports me, and I am happy to see her. As for the head coach, we will decide in a few days.”

“The Los Angeles Olympics? I don’t know. If my body holds up long enough. We’ll see. I hope.”

Let us recall that in the 1/8 final match against the recent Wimbledon champion, Elina led 3:0 in the first set, but lost the advantage, after which she allowed her opponent to similarly recoup in the tie-break (5:7). In the second set, Elina took a convincing revenge (6:2), but the decisive set still went to Krejcikova (4:6).

Earlier, Svitolina beat Japanese Moyuki Uchijima and American Jessica Pegula (seeded fifth) at the 2024 Olympics. At the previous Olympics in Tokyo, Elina won a bronze medal.

The only Ukrainian to reach the quarterfinals of the Paris Olympics in singles was Marta Kostyuk. Yesterday, Ukraine’s number one tennis player defeated the seventh seed, Greek Maria Sakkari, in a strong-willed style. Marta will compete with Donna Vekic from Croatia for the right to reach the semifinals.

The 2024 Summer Olympics will end on August 11. The competition will feature 329 sets of medals in 32 sports. Ukraine is represented in Paris by 140 athletes in 23 sports – this is the smallest representation of the blue and yellow during the Olympics.
