Ukraine came very close to a medal in the women’s rowing quad final at the 2024 Olympics
Ukrainian rower Evgeniya Dovgodko commented on the final of the women’s Quadruple Sculls in Rowing at the 2024 Olympic Gamesduring which Ukraine was very close to a medal.
“It’s already a reward that we are among the strongest teams. These are the Olympic Games, there are no weak ones here. We were also feared, and it was unpredictable who could win. But we tried and gave everything.”
“We are glad that we showed a fight. For us, this is the most important thing, that there was a fight, we tried to get the leaders. Somewhere we understood that the medal was in our pocket, but it happened the way it happened.”
Evgeniya Dovgodko, Ekaterina Dudchenko, Anastasia Kozhenkova and Darya Verkhoglyad started the race successfully and for some time were in contention for 2nd-3rd place. However, the Ukrainians failed the final 500 meters of the distance, letting Switzerland and Germany pass them.
The German team eventually managed to win the bronze medal. And thanks to the finishing spurt in the last meters of the distance, the Netherlands lost the Olympic gold to the team from Great Britain.
The Ukrainian team has so far won one medal at the 2024 Olympics. Olga Harlan won a bronze medal in sabre fencing.
The 2024 Summer Olympics will end on August 11. The competitions will feature 329 sets of medals in 32 sports. Ukraine will be represented in Paris by 140 athletes in 23 sports – this is the smallest representation of the blue and yellow during the Olympics.
