Two-time Russian high jump champion Danil Lysenko admitted that he would not agree to participate in the 2024 Olympic Games under the conditions offered to national athletes.
Russian track and field athletes have been suspended from international competitions due to the situation in Ukraine by decision of the International Association of Athletics Federations (World Athletics).
— To some extent, I hoped that something else could change. The Paris games are already the third that I have missed. In 2016, I qualified for Rio de Janeiro, but I did not go there. Tokyo did not live up to expectations for obvious reasons, although it is largely not their fault. Until last summer, I entertained myself with an illusion about Paris. Then the hope disappeared, I resigned myself. I watched the opening ceremony. I will take a look, I am interested. Of course, I would like to participate. But I would not have agreed to the conditions that were offered to us, ”Lysenko told RT.
Lysenko is a silver medalist at the World Championships.
The Paris Olympics will end on August 11. 15 Russians participated in the competition in neutral status.
