Athletistic/Figure skating. Dmitry Svishchev, a member of the State Duma Committee on Physical Culture and Sports, called the non-invitation of Russian athletes to the medal ceremony of the team figure skating tournament at the Beijing Olympics a shame.

On July 31, International Olympic Committee representative Mark Adams said that Russian athletes would not attend the medal ceremony, which will take place on August 7 in Paris.

“This is a natural rudeness,” Svishchev said. “Such ceremonies turn into a farce when one of the teams is not even invited. Russia is a leader and a founding country of world figure skating. It is simply astonishing that those who controversially stripped the team of its gold medals did not even bother to invite the athletes to the presentation ceremony.

He also noted that the IOC’s decision was purely political in nature and was not properly explained. “Shame and disgrace,” the parliamentarian added.

On July 25, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) rejected appeals by the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC), the Russian Figure Skating Federation and figure skaters regarding the review of the results of the team tournament at the 2022 Olympic Games. Earlier, CAS had disqualified Kamila Valieva for four years for violating anti-doping rules, after which the International Skating Union annulled her results at the Olympic Games, dropping the Russian team from first to third place. After the review, the Americans took first place, the Japanese took second place, and the Canadians remained fourth.
