Oleg Vernyaev finished his performance in eighth place
Ukrainian gymnast Ilya Kovtun took fourth place in absolute championship By artistic gymnastics on Olympics 2024. Another Ukrainian, Oleg Vernyaeveventually became eighth.
Kovtun and Verniayev had long been contenders for medals in the competition. Both Ukrainians showed high results on the parallel bars and for a while both of them took the lead. However, errors in the horizontal bar exercises then pushed the Ukrainians out of the medal zone.
The Japanese won gold Shinnosuke Okascoring a total of 86.832 points. The Chinese came in second Zhang Bohen And Xiao RuotengKovtun scored 86.165 points and lost the fight for bronze by less than 0.2 points.
Earlier, Kovtun and Verniayev also competed in the men’s team competition, where the Ukrainian team took fifth place in the all-around. Both athletes, as well as Nazar Chepurnyi and Igor Radivilov, qualified for a number of individual finals of separate programs.
The 2024 Olympic Games will end on August 11. The competitions will feature 329 sets of awards in 32 sports. Ukraine is represented in Paris by 140 athletes in 23 sports – this is the smallest representation of the blue and yellow during the Olympics.
