Athletistic/OI-2024. Russian sabre fencer Anna Bashta, who has represented Azerbaijan since 2019, has explained the reasons for her embrace with Ukrainian Olga Kharlan at the Paris Olympics.

On Monday, Harlan defeated Bashta in the 1/8 finals with a score of 15:6. After the end of the fight, the Ukrainian athlete bowed to the judges and her opponent, and then hugged Bashta.

“Olga and I have known each other since childhood, we fence and are friends off the track. I think it would be stupid to socialize off the track and not shake hands or congratulate each other on the track. We are all very friendly, not only with Olga. We spend time together at training camps and competitions,” Bashta is quoted by Sputnik Azerbaijan.
