American swimmer Ryan Murphy failed to qualify for the 200m backstroke final at the Paris 2024 Olympics.
In the semi-finals, the 29-year-old finished tenth with a time of 1 minute 56.62 seconds. This was not enough for the American to qualify for the final race.
At the 2021 Tokyo Games, Murphy finished second by a similar distance, losing to the Russian Evgeny Rylov who set an Olympic record. After the swim, the American told reporters he felt “enormous mental strain” while swimming in a swim he said was “probably not clean.”
The Olympic Games will take place in Paris from July 26 to August 11. Fifteen Russians will participate in the Games in neutral status.
