Russian swimmer Evgeny Somov responded to criticism from the organizers of the Seine triathlon at the Paris Olympics.
The women’s Olympic triathlon competition took place on July 31. On the same day, the organizers postponed the men’s tournament, which was originally scheduled to take place on July 30. The reason for the transfer was the poor quality of the water in the Seine.
“If I came here to participate in a triathlon or swim in open water, I would swim, but now I am just happy to swim in the pool,” the correspondent reports, according to Somov.
Earlier Thursday, Somov failed to qualify for the 50-meter freestyle, posting the 44th fastest time in the preliminary heats (23.43). 16 athletes with the fastest time advanced to the semifinals.
The games in Paris will take place from July 26 to August 11. All Russian athletes will compete in a neutral status.
