Plushenko on the inverted flag at the 2024 Olympics opening ceremony: “These are signs that say: ‘People, wake up!’

Double Olympic figure skating champion Evgeny Plushenko believes that the Olympic flag being toppled during the opening ceremony of the 2024 Games in Paris is a sign that calls on governments in several countries to come to their senses.

During the opening ceremony, the Olympic flag was hung upside down on the flagpole.

— A brilliant story about the Olympic flag being overturned during the opening. Such coincidences are like signs saying: “People, wake up!” And not even people, but governments of some countries, you are going in the wrong direction.

The world has turned upside down and the Olympics have become a political game. Unfortunately, this has affected our athletes. We all know that Russian athletes are leaders. This is the strongest team in the world. In this way, they are trying to encroach on us, to press us, to show us something. I believe that justice will prevail and we will return to the Olympics and prove our seriousness, our status as leaders.

“As for our athletes who went under the neutral flag, this is the right decision, we must defend our positions. We all know that these are Russian athletes, we all worry about them and support them,” Plushenko wrote on the Telegram channel.

The Paris Olympics will end on August 11.
