Chikunova – about 2 million rubles for a faster result than “gold” at the Olympic Games: “I don’t mind that my prize money is counted”

World swimming record holder Evgenia Chikunova told she was not bothered by talk of her prize money.

Chikunova, thanks to her result in the Russian Cup final (2:18.98), will receive 2 million rubles in prize money, since American Kate Douglass (2:19.24) swam slower in her victorious Olympic final. Chikunova is the current world record holder at this distance.

Earlier, the WFTU announced that swimmers who, during a tournament in Yekaterinburg in absentia, repeat or surpass the result of the champion of the Games in the French capital in the same discipline, will receive two million rubles.

— Weren’t you surprised that in Russia, those who made predictions almost never named Douglass, even though it was obvious that she was the main favorite?

“I also think she was underestimated in the pre-start scenarios; it always seemed to me that Douglass and Smith were going to fight. And because Kate swam well this winter, I realized she was a great candidate for Olympic gold.

— So, as a result, you earned 2 million rubles from the Cup final, but today you were unable to double this amount at the Baltic Sea Cup.

“Today I did everything I could, but for the first time in a long time I lost my last fifty dollars. It was obvious she started strong, but she didn’t finish fast enough. Although swimming 2 minutes 20 seconds at the end of the season is also very good.

— Doesn’t it bother you that the media loudly counts your earnings every day?

“I don’t mind because this is all in the public domain, which means it is still widely known,” Chikunova told .
