The reigning 100m butterfly world champion failed to qualify for the Paris Olympics.

Portuguese double world champion Diogo Ribeiro achieved a 20th place finish in the qualifying series of the 100m butterfly at the Paris Olympic Games.

The 20-year-old athlete covered the distance in 51.90 seconds and was not among the 16 swimmers who qualified for the semi-finals. The best time in the qualifications was set by Hungarian Krystof Milak – 50.19.

Ribeiro won two gold medals at the 2024 World Championships in the 50m and 100m butterfly.

The Paris Olympics will end on August 11.
