The IOC said Chinese swimmers had passed more than 600 doping tests since January.

Chinese swimmers were tested particularly carefully ahead of the Paris Olympics amid the doping scandal, said Mark Adams, communications director of the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

China’s Pan Zhanle at the 2024 Olympic Games set a world record in the 100-meter freestyle – 46.4 seconds.

In April, the New York Times reported that trimetazidine had been found in samples taken from 23 Chinese swimmers ahead of the Tokyo Olympics. According to the publication, the China Anti-Doping Agency (CHINADA) conducted its own investigation, after which it announced that the substance had unintentionally entered the athletes’ bodies in small amounts. A joint investigation by the organization and Chinese police revealed that traces of the substance had been found in the kitchen of the hotel where the Chinese swimmers were staying. The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) was unable to refute the Chinese version and did not sanction the athletes.
