Shubenkov: “A million rubles in prize money is a reason for joy, but I am far from the Olympic standard”

110 meter hurdles world champion Sergei Shubenkov told that the decision to pay a million rubles in prize money for meeting the Olympic standards evokes feelings of joy, but for him, at the moment, this figure is unattainable.

The All-Russian Athletics Federation (ARAF) announced that athletes who meet the qualifying standards for the Paris Olympics will receive an additional bonus of one million rubles. In the men’s 110-meter hurdles, the Olympic standard is 13.27 seconds.

– Good news! They give – they do not take away. This is a reason for joy, hurray, hurray! It is a pity that I am now further than ever from this Olympic standard. For me, this is still an unattainable result. It is good, of course, that they have established a million prize money, I will still try to reach the level, fortunately we are doing everything for this, “Shubenkov told .

In June, Shubenkov took second place in the 110-meter hurdles at the BRICS Games in Kazan, with a time of 13.70 seconds.
